On top of Hi-Tor Mountain, requires some steep rock climbing, but no gear. 821 ft, gives a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
This is the first cache we've hidden, did it over Thanksgiving. Hiked up to the top of the mountain and hid this green ammo box. Inside you'll find a shrink-wrapped AMD t-shirt and blinking light I got at SIGGRAPH, a PT Cruiser toy car, some music CD's, a george carlin tape, a deck of playing cards, AM/FM radio, and an Atlantis toy. There are two routes to the cache. The difficult hike begins on "The Long Path" (http://www.nynjtc.org/trails/longpath/index.html) right next to "No Trespassing" signs. The path is not off limits, regardless of the signs near it, just look for the green blazes. Don't go on the path where the powerlines are, that isn't the correct trail. The entrance has a specific marking, look for it. Be prepared to climb up rocky ledges. There are two trail heads, one easy one hard (hence the 4 rating for terrain.) We're assuming you're coming in via the harder path, but we'll give you the coordinates for the easy entrance as well.
Hard Entrance: Trailhead coordinates are N41 10.614 W73 57.776 elevation 196ft on South Mountain Road. Park at Aldo's deli (good subs) or along Ridge Road.
Easy Entrance: Trailhead coordinates are N41 11.530 W74 00.262 elevation 546ft. Park at the top of Central Highway. This trail is a lot longer, but less steep.
