Criada em 1118, a Ordem do Templo de Salomão, ou Ordem dos Templários, rapidamente cresceu, enriqueceu e se tornou poderosa em toda a Europa.
Mesmo depois de perdido o último reduto cristão na Terra Santa, em 1291, e consequentemente da sua missão principal (proteger os cristãos na Terra Santa), tal era o poder que tinham alcançado, que foi permitida a continuidade da Ordem pelo Papa Inocêncio.
Dezasseis anos depois, e sob forte pressão do extremamente endividado rei Filipe VI de França, o também demasiado endividado para com a Ordem, Papa Clemente V, acedeu a que a Ordem dos Templários fosse atacada e extinta.
Foi assim que na madrugada da Sexta-Feira 13 de Outubro de 1307, centenas de monges templários foram assassinados à traição, alguns até queimados vivos.
Apesar de rápido e impiedoso, o ataque de Filipe VI sofreu um revés: a frota templária que se encontrava fundeada em França desapareceu misteriosamente, e levou com ela o segredo que os Templários tinham desenterrado do chão de Jerusalém e há muito vinham protegendo.
Conta-se que, gozando de forte protecção em Portugal, a frota se tenha dirigido ao nosso país.
De facto, em Portugal, o destino dos Templários foi bastante diferente de no resto da Europa.
Perante as ordens do Papa para exterminar a Ordem e os seus membros, o rei D. Dinis ordenou que se averiguassem as acusações de que os Templários eram alvo e, perante a conclusão de inocência dos membros da Ordem, o inteligente rei português, num habilidoso gesto diplomático, dissolveu a ordem e confiscou todos os seus bens.
Algum tempo depois funda a Ordem de Cristo, a quem doa depois todos os bens e concessões anteriormente confiscados aos Templários, e onde ingressaram os antigos Cavaleiros do Templo de Salomão.
Assim, Portugal tornou-se um reduto templário, de onde a Ordem se espalhou para todo o mundo, a bordo das caravelas portuguesas dos Descobrimentos, chegando ao Brasil em 1500.
De tudo isto resta uma pergunta:
Que é feito do tesouro templário que zarpou de França a bordo da frota naquela Sexta-Feira 13?
-Terá vindo para Portugal?
-Será que ainda por cá está?
-Será que foi levado para o Brasil?

Sometime later founded the Order of Christ, who then donates all goods and concessions previously confiscated from the Templars, and which joined the ancient Knights of the Temple of Solomon.
Thus, Portugal became a Templar stronghold, where the Order has spread around the world aboard the Portuguese caravels of Discovery, arrived in Brazil in 1500.
