Jewel Lake Traditional Cache
WrongwayZ: I went looking for the cache and it has gone missing again. In the more than a decade since I placed it, the area has changed considerably, and the lake is frequently completely dry. Tall reeds have grown over much of the area. The cache location is not on the lake shore anymore, and there isn't much of a lakeshore on which to place a cache that wouldn't be very muddy or perhaps even underwater sometimes.

A hike-in or bike-in on a pretty lake with birds in a fabulous park. Requires some stealth, particularly in nice weather.
As each of the person who introduced me to caching (Julia) and the person who introduced her (juderek) have each placed only one cache, I thought I would continue the tradition of placing just one. This cache is in Tilden Park, site of my first find. The lake itself is mostly gone and is full of reeds now, but the East Bay Regional Park District has put in a fabulous boardwalk. Take the boardwalk from a spot to the left on the fire road, and walk through a veritable jungle of gorgeous foliage to get to the cache site.
The cache is a snapware lid container carefully covered in camouflage tape by my caching partner, zuckermn.
There are bathrooms near the cache site.
As is the case throughout most Bay Area parks, you should be careful of poison oak, but there was none there when the cache was placed.
Much of the route to the cache is either paved or on a boardwalk, but there are some parts that are on a smooth fire road with little or no elevation gain. Cache is wheelchair accessible if your wheelchair is OK with slightly rough terrain. I did see someone reach the cache site using a wheelchair.
