Geocache Description:

This is designed as a night cache so your experience will be much richer if you come after dark, but a daytime find will be challenging, too.

The following coordinates are for the trailhead, which is at the end of a dead end residential street. Following the trail into the forest will be MUCH easier than cutting through the bush!

N42 33.606
W087 56.810

Park anywhere on the side of the road near the forest. The path is slightly overgrown but still very visible. Careful! There are shallow drop-offs on either side of the trail!

STEALTH IS REQUIRED!

Bring your flashlights if you come at night! Reflective "fireflies" let you know you're on the right track. Mosquitoes can be bad during summer so don't forget bug spray!

Please note...this is a night cache and so it would be appropriate to include glow-in-the-dark goodies for those who come after you! The geocache container is a small cylindrical thermos that contains a few goodies along with a trackable Firefly "Cachekins" for whomever finds it first!

The whole trek will be less than 1/4 mile and will take you down a path that used to be a late 19th century railroad track. (A short walk into the forest is require at the end of the track.)

These railways led to the now defunct Dupont-Nemours Powder Company, which exploded on March 9, 1911.

Newspaper reports of the day indicate that 180 tons of finished black powder and dynamite exploded that evening, killing several workers and destroying hundreds of homes within a 10 mile radius.

The explosion was reportedly so enormous, in fact, that the vibration was felt all the way down in Chicago and was thought by residents there to be an earthquake.
