Geocache Description:

BFL 5 Logo

**Remember to take down the code from the inside of the container or front of the logbook in order to find the final cache GC2G0NA: BFL Boot Camp V :: Tachyonic Antitelephone**

The Underworld is generally thought to be an area below the surface of the earth, where the souls of the evil dead have been sent. In Dante’s Inferno, the Underworld is depicted as a cold, ice-ridden, desolate place where, at its frozen centre, Satan himself resides. For this BFL cache, you will literally be sent to Hell and back in search of the Devil’s Logbook, where only the most evil of souls have signed their names as Lucifer’s guests…

This multi-cache is located on the Bruce Trail, following the white blazes NE from 6th Line toward the quarry bridge. In doing this cache, you will be required to access fissure caves along the trail in search of reflective micro-clues that the Devil has unknowingly left behind. This cache is designed to be done at night with a flashlight, but given the darker environment of the Underworld, you may also find success during daylight hours using a strong flashlight. The total time required to complete this cache round-trip from the starting co-ordinates will take approximately 1 hour. Please allow for additional time if using one of the provided parking co-ordinates.

There are 4 stages total – 3 intermediate stages, plus the final cache. In each of the intermediate stages, a micro container wrapped in reflective tape awaits those bold enough to venture into the fissures. Inside each of the stages are 2 sets of co-ordinates:

  • The next stage’s co-ordinates as taken above ground from the trail
  • The next stage’s fissure access point

The final cache is a regular sized lock-n-lock style container resting inside, and at the bottom of, the Devil’s Fissure.

***IMPORTANT SAFETY INFO - PLEASE READ***

  1. First and foremost, this cache is potentially very dangerous, especially if you are not respectful and aware of your surroundings. You should not attempt this cache alone. You will be very near the edge of the Niagara Escarpment in the darkness in an area with many trip hazards. Please take any and all safety precautions you feel may be necessary to ensure your experience is a positive one. Some items you may wish to bring include (but are not limited to): hard hats, first aid kit, safety ropes, extra flashlights and batteries, cell phones, FRS radios, food and water.
  2. It is highly recommended that you carpool to this cache since there just aren't any free parking options within 2km of the posted starting co-ordinates. A reference point has been provided for a paid parking option near the start of this cache. Parking is available at the Golf Course across the street from the posted co-ordinates of this cache and is $10. There may be other areas to park (other than the provided options), but they are certainly not recommended and you use them at your own discretion.
  3. Conditions within the fissures can, and oftentimes will, vary greatly from the conditions experienced on the Bruce Trail. It is QUITE possible that you may encounter ice accretions within the fissure even though the ambient temperature above-ground is quite warm. You may want to bring "Yak-trax" or something similar for your feet to ensure good footing.
  4. All access points and fissures used in this geocache have been viewed and approved by a member of Conservation Halton. Please stay on the trails and access the fissures only via the instructions listed in the "Waypoints" section of this cache. Hints for fissure access points will also be indicated on the backside of the co-ordinates found in each of the intermediate stages.
  5. Only you know your own physical limitations and capabilities. Nobody is forcing you to find this geocache. Thus, as stated in the Geocaching.com Disclaimer "Cache seekers assume all risks involved in seeking a cache." This includes injury to your person or damage to personal property. Please DO NOT seek this cache if you are not 100% comfortable in doing so.
  6. 6th Line is a very busy road, with speeding vehicles and quarry trucks aplenty, thus, you should not linger on or near the road any longer than necessary.
  7. This cache should not be considered to be "kid friendly", but should you wish to bring them with you, please keep a close eye on them and perhaps try this one during daylight hours.
  8. A word about bats: White Nose Syndrome is a growing concern for bat populations in Ontario. The fissure caves used for this cache have been deemed unlikely habitat for bats by Conservation Halton. That being said, should you encounter any bats, please do not disturb them, shine your light on them, or use flash photography on them since doing so may fatally alter their hibernation cycle. Please also send a message to the CO of this cache to make us aware of which fissure(s) you may have found them in so that we may bring it to the attention of the proper authorities.

Wishing you a wonderful journey, and a safe return from the Underworld...
