Geocache Description:

Gustav Erikssons (Vasa) påstådda landstigningsplats den 31 maj 1520

Gustav Erikssons (Vasa) alleged disembarkation site in may 31 1520

Landstigningen

The disembarkation

It is said that after Gustav Eriksson escaped from the danish captivity and gotten to Lübeck, returned to Sweden and disembarked at Stensö cape the 31'st of may 1520. From Stensö he would have gone to the castles of Kalmar
and Stockholm, since they were the only ones who were not in the king Christian's hands. Anna at Kalmar Castle is said to have received him with joy, but when Gustav did not get the Kalmar residents with him on his side he continued upward Sweden. Where we don't know until he the winter of 1520-21 was in Dalarna. There he organized a rebellion that brought him to the post of regent and later king.

Gustav Vasa's adventures during the journey through Dalarna in December 1520 is one of the most famous episodes in the Swedish history, hopefully you can read about that in caches that others has put out.

The stone on the point was put there in 1933, before that was from 1851 a cast iron monument that was moved to City Park on the 1880's, as it were vandalized. There is also an older, less monumental, a small memorial next to the waterline that was donated by the French King Louis XVIII when he was in Kalmar 1804.

It is about 2km to walk/bicykle/jogging.
It's a good place for a picknic and also a bathing-place.
