Le lavoir / Gué St. Jean washing-place

Un jolie lavoir au sein de la ville

On remarque la longue toiture de ce pittoresque lavoir établi sur un coude du rû de Mondereau. Ce ruisseau canalisé est l’un des nombreux bras artificiels de la Vanne. Il servait autrefois à alimenter, à partir du gué, les fossés qui entouraient depuis la Guerre de Cent Ans les murs de la cité. Soyez vraiment discret, les voisins vous espionnent !

English :

A long picturesque roof covers this pretty washing-place situated on Mondereau stream, which is one of the artificial branches of the Vanne. This stream was used to provide water to the ditches which surrounded the city since the Hundred Years War.
