[ENG] Darznicas fort hill located in Madona region, at Viesiena village. elevation ~250m.

[LV] Darznicas kalns atrodas Madonas rajona Aronas pagasta (agrak Viesienas pag.?) ~1. km no Viesienas.

[ENG] Darznicas hill in Madona district, ~1 km from Viesiena. It is a freestanding, ~ 30 m high, elongated mound with the naturally steep, D, W and NW slopes. Top of the hill slopes artificially created steeper. North side, the protection of the plateau formed three ditches and ramparts. Mound is a sloping plateau (16 m drop), ~ 110 m long and 40-50 m wide. In 20th century 20th, creating the dance area, part of the cultural layer was digged off. Have expressed views that Darznicas hill was mentioned in 1212th Jersika splitting document that there was Negestes castle, called after Nigestes farmhouse to the north, nowdays not existing. There are legends - that there is a castle under the hill that sunk, and that there is mirracle stream that appers time to time when you are alone there, and the patio set up in "Swedish times", to carry up the hill guns. E. Brastinš book "Latvian mounds" have information that in the past near Darznicas mountain has been the Bean Tavern, which burned down. Now there's a derelict shop and the newly built but unfinished house. When the dancing square was flattened in 20th some artifacts was found, like gave fragments, stones, bones and a small bronze items. There is also a legend that the hilltop black soil was brought up by soldiers in ancient times with their hats, that is very common story for mounds, but the story of the guns kept in the terraces is quite questionable, because the terraces are too narrow to create a path for them.

Tale in latvian - Teika
Kadu versti no Viesienas muižas ir Darznicas kalns. Tani vieta, kur tagad kalns, vecos laikos bijuse grezna pils.
