Bill.on.the.sly: [:(] I really do not want to archive this cache but with last winters storm lose of #4 and the recent lose of # 2 at the haunted house there is not much else I can do for series.

If all goes well, I intend to place a new series in this area this spring and congratulations to all who found the final and all preceding it.

A Short Walk From Home #1, #3, and #5 will remain as standalone caches to be enjoyed.

Geocache Description:

Once Csouser hooked me on Geocaching, I began to justify the time spent by claiming that this would be a good hobby and expand my horizons.

Well, there are many benefits to Geocaching - lots of walking (car to nearest guard rail), new and varied scenery (urban strip mall parking lots, tick infested brambled woods), and enjoyment of the great outdoors (a walk on the shoulder of a busy highway in a soaking rain or a trip into a hidden swamp in sub zero weather!) Oh, the joys of Geocaching!

As I got into this sport, I decided to hide a few caches that I really had to walk to, so I could get some exercise. I found that experience very rewarding and the exercise has been beneficial. Even if I drive to the initial parking area to check on these, I end up walking a bit over a mile on each maintenance trip with few exceptions. Not bad exercise and it has made me want more activity with a change of scenery.

It is that last statement that has become the inspiration for this sequence of caches. Within A Short Walk From Home, I have hidden a series of caches of various sizes and difficulties. I assure you these are not "Things Found in My Basement", and since it has been shown that "Size Matters", I have documented the size of each cache in the description. I have hidden a true puzzle, a multi-cache, three traditional caches, and the final, which is a mystery cache, although some may consider a few of these "Revenge". The key point here is that all the caches are within A Short Walk From Home.

This, the final cache of A Short Walk From Home, is located at the coordinates calculated from the digits collected at the other five caches of this series.

N 38° L.M
W 077° N.O

Digit From GC Code
d A Short Walk From Home #1 GC2FG13
b A Short Walk From Home #2 GC2FG14
a A Short Walk From Home #3 GC2FG15
c = 4 A Short Walk From Home #4 GC2FG16
e A Short Walk From Home #5 GC2FG17

In the formulas below * means multiply and make all calculations from the inner parens to the outer ones and left to right.
L and N are each two digits.
M and O are each three digits. Add a leading 0 if necessary.

L (2 * a) + c + (2 * e)
M ((e * 4) - (c + d))
N b + c + d + e
O ((e + b + d) * e) + c

Initial cache contents:
  • Frisbee
  • Water pistol
  • Rubber duckie
  • Deck of cards
  • Bottle opener key chain
  • An empty log with a pencil

Congratulations to
Gaiter Man and Bubba Q. Jack
who share the FTF!

As you sign the final log please provide me with feedback.
  • Did you enjoy the series?
  • How would you rate the challenges of this series?
  • Would you enjoy more of these?
  • And most important, please provide your adventures on the way to signing this log.

Special thanks to Venturing Crew 4522 for evaluating and verifying the accuracy of all of these caches prior to release.

Note: This series took over 3 months to put together so I would expect more than a few minutes for each find.
