This is the third CITO (Cache In Trash Out) in Shikenejima Island, Japan. Shikinejima island is a small island (3.9 km^2) located about 150km far from Tokyo bay. Shikinejima hosted CITOs twice last year and they were very successful by involving local children. Currently the island holds more than 20 geocaches and they are “officially” admitted by Society of Industry and Commerce of the island. Thus, the island welcomes all geocachers, who can freely enjoy geocaching all over the island.
This time, CITO is more enjoyable because all participants from outside of the island will get original geo-coins as their achievement. The geo-coins will be available only in the event.
The event will be commenced at Development Center of the island, at 13:00 on 13th of November (Saturday). Thus, all participants should gather at the Center before the time. The participants will be grouped with local children, who also help collecting litters and maybe teach you short-cuts to the points!!
To the island, there are some transports. The budget-concerned travelers, a normal ferry starting in the night of Friday is the best, while a jet-ferry is also available from Tokyo bay. A rapid travel to the island is also good by using a airplane, which departs from Chofu Airport in Tokyo.
A gathering party will be held in the previous day and the day of the event.

第三回CITOイベント in 式根島
第三回目のCITO(Cache In Trash Out)イベントが式根島で実施されます。式根島は、東京から南西約150km浮かぶ小さな島(3.9平方キロメートル、人口600人)です。式根島では昨年2回のCITOイベントが開催され、地元の子供たちの積極的な参加もあり、盛り上がりました。この島には20のキャッシュがあり、しかもそのすべてが地域の商工会によって、正式に認められています。つまり、この島ではジオキャッシャーを大歓迎!! 思う存分に島の宝探しを楽しめます。
今回のCITOイベントでは、記念品として、島外からの参加者全員に島オリジナルのジオコインが贈呈されます。これはレアもの!!
イベント日は、11月13日(土曜日)。時間は、13時(午後1時)。場所は、前回と同様に、島の開発総合センターにて。今回も島の子供たちといくつかのグループに分かれてもらいます。子供たちはゴミ拾いの手伝い、そしてもしかしたら近道など地元の情報を教えてくれるかもしれません!!
島への交通手段はいくつかあります。一番リーズナブルなのは、東京の桟橋から前日の夜に出港する東海汽船のフェリーです。一夜をフェリーでゆっくりと過ごすのもいいですね。また、少し余裕のある方は、ジェットフェリーであれば、2時間半ぐらいで島に到着します。さらに、ささっと、島に到着したい方や、上空からのすばらしい景色を楽しみたい方は、調布空港から出る飛行機も高めですがお勧めです。
イベントの前後に簡単な親睦会&飲み会などがあるので、興味がある方は是非。島の人たちとの交流を通じて、小さい島の文化を味わってください。
