Geocache Description:

English

The Fajã dos Padres is located on the south coast of Madeira at the bottom of the famous cliff of Cabo Girão, the second highest cape in the world. The name of this area comes from 'Fajã' - a word that defines a flat, arable, small extension, located by the sea, formed of materials detached from the slope and 'Fathers' - this land once belonged to the Fathers of the Company Jesus.

Nestled in a cove, these lands produced the best wine on the island and until 1998 could be reach only by boat. Today, the decline becomes much easier in the modern glass elevator - with 350 meters high and one of the highest in Europe. Today, Fajã dos Padres is a small resort that includes a restaurant, beach and perfect conditions for and the practice of fishing, holiday rental accommodation for short stays and incredible views of the sea and mountains. In addition to the wine culture, this area has excellent weather conditions for the cultivation of papaya, mango, avocado, banana and other exotic fruits such as guava and passion fruit.
There are several companies that offer cruises to the Fajã dos Padres or passing through Fajã dos Padres flock to when other places.

Whether coming by boat or car, we're sure you will not regret of having deviated from the main path to visit this wonderful paradise! .
