Trollehallar - en mäktig dalgång skapad av en isälv. 

Trollehallar är en dalgång som på sina ställen är 35 meter djupare än de omgivande bergsidorna. I botten på dalgången slingrar sig den lilla Trollbäcken som knappast ensam kan ha mejslat ut en så mäktig dalgång i urberget.

För cirka 14000 år sedan var dock inte en liten bäck som rann här, utan istället en mäktig isälv som forsade mellan bergsidorna. Norr om Hallandåsen fanns enorma smältande ismassor från den senaste istiden. Söder om åsen fanns det stora isfria områden.

Smältvattenströmmarna från norr till söder förde med sig stora mängder is, sten, grus och sand som skapat ett solfjäderformat nät av rullstensåsar söder om dalgången. Söder om Trollehallar samlades stora mängder sediment från isälven. När de stora mängder is som nu var begravda i sedimenten smälte bort och sjönk ihop. Bildades en stor håla som idag är Rössjön. En s.k dödissjö.

När istiden var över var dalgången renspolad och hade nästan lodräta väggar, men genom tusentals vintrars frostsprängning av berget, kantas numera dalgången av rasbranter. Frostsprängningen pågår fortfarande och det kan enklast ses genom att nyfallna stenblock inte har samma påväxt av mossor och lavar som som äldre block.
 

För att få logga Earthcachen krävs att man besöker platsen och E-mailar mig svaret på följande frågor:

1: Vid parkeringskoordinaten N 56° 19.491 E 013° 07.462 finns samma typ av skylt som nomalt anger gatunamn i svenska städer . Vad står det på den?    

2: Nere i dalgången vid N 56° 19.703 E 013° 07.678 ligger det stenbumlingar från frostsprängningen. Uppskatta storleken på de största stenarna. Exempelvis " Stora som en fotboll" eller "Stora som en buss"

3: Frivilligt, men uppskattat:  Vid  N 56° 19.792 E 013° 07.855.  Ladda upp en bild av dig själv vid slutkoordinaten  tillsammans med din logg. Vänligen ladda inte upp bilder som kan avslöja svaret på loggningsfrågorna

Trollehallar - A mighty valley created of a glacial river.

Trollehallar is a valley in some places is 35 meters deeper than the surrounding hillsides. In the bottom of the valley winds the little creek of Trollbäcken that hardly alone could be hammered out a mighty valley in the bedrock.

For around 14000 years ago there was not a small creek that ran here, but a mighty glacial river that gushed from the mountain sides. North of the Halland ridge there was huge melting glaciers from the last ice age. South of the ridge, there were large ice-free areas.

Meltwater flowed from north to south, bringing  large quantities of ice, stone, gravel and sand.

Which created a fan-shaped network of ridges south of the valley. Seen on the map above as broken black lines. At the end of the Glacial period. There was a a large amount of ice and sediments, transported from the glacial river South of  Trollehallar. When the ice later later melted away. A hole was formed in the sinking sediment and formed a lake today knowned as Rössjön.

The lake a so-called Dead-ice Lake.

 When the ice age was over. The valley was flushed clean and had nearly vertical walls, but by thousands of winters frost of the mountain, now lined valley of scree. Frost damage is ongoing and it can most easily be seen through the newly fallen boulders that dont have the same growth of mosses and lichens than older blocks.
 

To log Earth cache is required to visit the place and email me the answer of the following questions:
1: At parking coordinate N 56° 19.491 E 013° 07.462  there is a sign with similar design to the signs where you see street names in Swedish citys -  What does it say?
2: In the bottom of the valley N 56° 19.703 E 013° 07.678 there are boulders that fell from the mountain side. Approximate the size of the biggest boulders size? For exemple "Big as a fotball" or "Big as Bus". 

3. (optional, but appriciated) At N 56° 19.792 E 013° 07.855 Upload an image of yourself at earthcache coordinates along with your log . Please do not upload any image that show the answers to the EC-questions.
