Team Laxson: Thank you to everyone that came out and supporting this CITO! Boulder County continues to be impressed by what our volunteer efforts is able to produce. Over 70 ties, thousands of feet of barbed wire, and lots and lots of other big pieces - just amazing!

Thanks again to Magellan for sponsoring this CITO.

Congratulations to all the winners (including those who won prizes)!

As the event is now in the past and it looks like everyone has logged, It's time to archive it.

Already planning a few more CITOs: August 20th@ Moffatt County, and another CITO in the Fall with Boulder County. Please email me if you would like to help coordinate and orgainze either of these (or if you would like to plan your own CITO).

Geocache Description:

Saturday, April 30th, 2011
09:00am - 12:00 noon

Magellan – the 2011 sponsor for Cache In Trash Out – has chosen this event and only 6 other events around the world to receive a very special Sponsorship Gift!

We have developed another volunteering opportunity with Boulder County Parks and Open Space. We will be removing large debris including old tires, drainage culverts, blocks of concrete, barbwire fences and trash at Rock Creek Open Space.

We will be working at the Rock Creek Open Space just off of Old Dillon Road near Hwy 287. This area provides a recreational trail corridor, habitat for animals, and great views. Due to its previous land uses there is a great deal of trash that needs to be removed including old tires, old mental culverts, concrete blocks, barbwire and other metal debris. With your help the county hopes to clean up this area to make it a safer and healthier habitat.

We will meet at the pullout off West Dillon road (listed coordinates) just west of to the Rock Creek Trail Crossing between 8:45am and 9:00am. From the parking area/pullout we will walk to the project site gathering trash and loading it into trucks and trailers.

With the Magellan Sponsorship, we will be giving away a number of T-Shirts, geocoins, Travel Bugs, and one lucky volunteer will win a Magellan GPS!

Weather in late April is usually warm and pleasant but can be unpredictable. There is very little shade in the area we’ll be working, so please bring sunscreen, appropriate clothing, and plenty of water. I would suggest checking the forecast before the project at NOAA and search Broomfield, CO. Even if the forecast predicts bad weather, please plan on attending. We will try to work in slightly inclement weather (cold, light rain, wind).

What You Should Bring:
Drinking water (1-2 liters)
Work gloves (if you have them)
Hiking shoes/boots
Rain gear
Binoculars or camera (optional)

What Boulder County will Provide:
Extra large trash bags and buckets
Work gloves
Extra Water
First aid kit

Who is Billzjeep?

Billzjeep began caching April 2001, logged 965 finds, had 5 hidden caches of his own, and was a recognized cacher in Colorado. He was unable to log his final finds because he passed away suddenly while geocaching with Jeeperz1&2 on March 6, 2004. Since his passing, Colorado has held a CITO event in his memory each year.

Past events held in his memory:
The First Annual Billzjeep CITO Event
The Second Annual Billzjeep CITO Event
3rd Annual Billzjeep CITO Event
Billzjeeps 4th Annual CITO @ Boyd Lake
BillzJeep 5th Annual CITO @Boyd Lake
6th Annual Tribute CITO; in honor of billzjeep
