This cache is placed on
Lookout Mountain's South Summit. Only one foot shorter than the
north peak, the south summit was once the site of a fire lookout.
Today, the it's topped with giant communication towers, and has no
real view.
You can get to the cache by hiking up the tower access Road. The
shorter, main route is from Sudden valley, but, for the adventurous
hikers, you can access this from lake Samish. If you have two cars,
you can even do a through hike from the Samish side, up to the top,
and down to Lake Whatcom!
If approaching from Sudden Valley, the route is simple. Park at the
beginning of the logging Rd at (N 48° 43.154 W 122° 21.330). Then
Follow it about four miles to a split at a green box (N 48° 40.892
W 122° 20.867). Following the right fork will take you to the North
(highest) summit. I recommend doing both summits in one day, as the
north summit has both good views, and another cache. (Lookout Mountain, North Summit)
Take the left fork, and steeply climb 1.3 mi to the top.
The cache is a Lock-and-Lock box.
Good Luck, and HAPPY HUNTING!
