A stunning 21st century interpretation of the redgum wharf which
helped shaped the region’s development is placed on the main
entry of Northern Highway Echuca.
The town entrance project is a collaborative effort involving
the community, the Shire of Campaspe and VicRoads to create a
structure that reinforces to the community and visitors alike the
critical role that the Port of Echuca precinct and the wharf has
played and continues to play in our heritage and our future.
“The historic redgum wharf is the premier tourist
icon of Campaspe and Echuca and this new structure will not only
provide a welcome to Echuca, but it will also reinforce the message
that this is an historic and proud township. The clear message is
'you have arrived' at this internationally recognised
destination.
"The town entrance project recognises the significance of the
wharf to Echuca and the entire Shire and its critical role and
relationship to our heritage, our tourism and our business and
development."
The new town entrance project represents the wharf structure and
identifies with the view that someone in a boat on the river gets
when they look up at the wharf. To complete the project, rust
coloured metal sheeting has been installed along the lower section
of the piles to represent water in a slightly waved formation. Some
low key landscaping consisting of drought resisting planting has
been undertaken in the foreground of the structures.
Efforts to enhance the Northern Highway Entrance into Echuca
have been underway for several years

Hmmm! With that, the construction commenced.
We each have opinions on what this structure really looks like,
but I’ll leave that up to you!
