Sandnes kommune er med sine 66 348 innbyggere Norges 9. største
kommune og 8. største by.
Folkemengden den 1. januar 1980 var 36 228, mot 60 000 i oktober
2006. Gjennom de siste 27 årene har Sandnes således økt sitt
innbyggertall med et årlig gjennomsnitt på 1,9 %, noe som er i
underkant av 900 personer hvert år og gjør byen til Norges hurtigst
voksende.
Sandnes ligger innerst i Gandsfjorden – bysenteret ligger
like vest for fjordenden. Vågen og tettbebyggelsen omkranser
fjorden og dalen i fortsettelsen, Ganddal.
Sandnes har alltid kommet i skyggen av naboen i nord Stavanger, men
Sandnesbuen er stolt av byen sin og vil hevde at vi har det vel så
godt som i ”byen” (Stavanger).
Kjente personer som har eller har hatt sitt liv i Sandnes er;
kraftkaren Torkel Ravndal, skuespilleren og fotomodellen Julie Ege,
styrkeløfteren Børge Øvrebø og vokalisten i Stavangeremsemlet Frode
Rønli.

last 27 years Sandnes has raised the population with 1.9% every
year which makes Sandnes the fastest growing town in Norway.
Sandnes is located in the bottom of Gandsfjord- the town center
lays west of the fjord. The towns building mass surround the harbor
area.
Sandnes has always been in the shadow nabour town Stavanger, but
habitants of Sandnes is proud of their town and means that they
have many qualities that you would not find in Stavanger.
Celebrities from Sandnes are Torkel Ravndal (world record holder in
deadlift), the model and actress Julie Ege, the powerlifter Børge
Øvrebø and the lead singer in Stavangerensemblet Frode Rønli.
