Geocache Description:

Situated to the west of Brynamman, Ynys Dawela Nature Park has a network of footpaths and tracks of varying degrees. Its recent history is quite varied and it is the aim of this cache for you to visit a number of information boards that will help you learn some of the history and nature of this park. Going is relatively easy - all on well maintained footpaths.

In order to get the coordinates of the final cache, you will need to visit some of the numerous information boards that are situated around the park. These are shown as 'i' on the map above and to make things easier, the locations of the information boards are provided:

Now its time to do some learning!

Please read each question carefully - a simple mis-reading/misinterpretation can lead to an incorrect answer! All of the answers are found in the text descriptions on the interpretation boards found in the park.

A Find out the year the parish tithe map was created that shows us that David Jones was the occupier of this land at the time. 183A.
B Staying with David Jones' occupancy, less than how many acres of woodland were on this site back then?
C Add the first and last digit of the year when Dynefwr Borough Council bought the land (in the month of March) to derive C.
D Find out when The Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen Colliery Co. Limited was established. Take the first digit from the last digit of this year to obtain a value for D.
E Pollution and the draining of agricultural ground in the latter half of which century, has led to a serious loss of habitat for wetland life? Take the first digit of this century to get a figure for E.
F Which month of the year is the best time to come to see meadowland flowers, when most are in bloom? Convert this month to its corresponding number in the year to obtain F.
G How many eggs can a single female frog generate? Take the first digit of this number, multiply it by 2 to obtain G.
H How many acres does the park occupy today? The answer is H9.

The cache is a regular sized clip-lock box in a cammo bag, with room for swaps and trackable items. You will only have to leave the obvious foot paths at the cache location itself and only by a metre or so - this will be obvious when you arrive there though. If you are led way off a path, consider that you've made a mistake - there are certain areas in the park where wondering off the path is dangerous.

Parking can be a bit of an issue since the original car park (still indicated on the main maps) is now out of bounds for road vehicles due to problems with the main access road; recommended parking is a small lay-by just to the east of the park's Northern Entrance, though you could also walk to the park from Brynamman via the course of the old Amman Valley Railway or by parking on Llandeilo Road and walking down BrynBach Road (which resident only vehicle access).
