Situado bem próximo da aldeia de Porto Formoso, nos arredores da cidade de Ribeira Grande, o Miradouro de Santa Iria espelha bem a verdejante beleza da magnífica Ilha de São Miguel, no Arquipélago dos Açores, rodeada pelo vasto azul do Oceano Atlântico. Deste Miradouro aprecia-se a beleza da costa Norte desta maravilhosa Ilha, que respira um ambiente muito próprio, também marcado pelas vastas plantações de chá. Diz-se que foi nestas encostas que a 3 de Agosto de 1831 se travou a Batalha da Ladeira da Velha, quando as tropas de D. Pedro IV venceram as do seu irmão D. Miguel, abrindo-se o caminho para Concessão de Évora Monte, que pôs termo à Guerra Civil de 1832/34, entre liberais e miguelistas.

From this viewpoint, you can appreciate the beauty of the northern coast of this beautiful island that breathes an atmosphere all its own, also marked by vast tea plantations. It is said that these slopes was that the August 3, 1831 was fought the Battle of Ladeira da Velha, when troops of D. Pedro IV defeated those of his brother D. Miguel, opening the way for Grant of Évora Monte, which ended the civil war of 1832/34, between liberals and miguelistas.
