The little island
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This cache leads you to a little, but very beautiful island in Lake Predil.
We found this picturesque place purely by chance, on our way to the slovenian border during a caching tour.
We had no choice but to stop and to hide a small box.
A legend describes the formation of this lake.
In former times, there was a big, wealthy village at the place, where today the lake can be found.
In an ice-cold winter night, when all inhabitants sat in their houses at the fireplace, a poor woman with a little child came to the village. Desperate and nearly frozen to death, she knocked on every door, but nobody opened. Then she saw a little, humble house. There she was immediately welcomed like an old friend.
Suddenly there was a terrible thunderstorm, an earthquake and a giant amount of water came down from the mountains.
On the next day the whole village and its inhabitants were gone, a deep lake was formed.
Only the little, humble house remained intact on a little island.
But the poor woman had disappeared. From that time on it was said, that she has been Mary with the little Jesus.
You can reach the cache by foot, but you have to cross some meters of water and your legs will get wet.
The GPS-reception is quite poor at the final location, so please use the hint and the spoiler picture.
