Eines der ältesten Monumente - One of the oldest monuments
An die Schichten des zur Trias gehörenden Rhäts schließt sich das Hettangium mit den Psilanoten-Schichten an. Das obere Hettangium bildet den Luxemburger Sandstein, aus dem die bizarren Felsformationen der kleinen Luxemburger Schweiz ausgewaschen sind. Auch die Stadt Luxemburg mit ihren unterirdischen Verteidigungsgängen, den Kasematten, steht auf Luxemburger Sandstein, der den wichtigsten Quellenhorizont des Landes darstellt und gewöhnlich Steilabhänge bildet.
The layers of the haetian belonging to the trias follows the hettangian with the psilanote layers. The upper Hettangium forms the Luxemburger sandstone, made of which the bizarr rock formations of the small luxemburger Switzerland are washed of. Also the city Luxembourg with their underground defense courses, the casemates, stands on Luxemburger sandstone, which represents the most important source horizon of the country and usually forms steep slopes.
Sandstein ist ein sogenanntes Sedimentgestein und besteht aus miteinander verkitteten Sandkörnern. Diese Sandkörner bestehen überwiegend aus Quarz. Er ist klastischen Ursprungs, das heißt er besteht aus Resten verwitterter und abgetragener Gesteine. Die wichtigsten Entstehungsräume für Sandsteine sind Meere, aber vor allem auch küstennahe Flachmeere. Der Sand stammt meist vom Festland und wird durch Flüsse und Meeresströmungen an seinen endgültigen Ablagerungsort transportiert.
Sandstone is a so called sedimentary rock and consits of interblended sand grains. These sand grains are of silica. The origin of the sandstone is clastic,that means, he has been built by rests of weathered and eroded rocks. The most important regions where he sandstone comes from are the seas ,but even the coastal waters,the so called shelf. The sand comes from the continental areas and was transported to his final destination by sea current or streaming of rivers.
Durch den Druck der jüngeren überlagernden Ablagerungen, aber auch durch den Druck des Meer- oder Grundwassers und teilweise auch durch Beimischungen im Sandstein selbst kommt es zur Verfestigung des Sandes (Diagnes). Je nach den physikalischen und chemischen Gegebenheiten bildet sich Sandstein unterschiedlicher Härte.

Bei dem Sandstein den wir hier am Menhir sehen, handelt es sich um einen Sandstein mit sehr starkem Eisengehalt. Dieser Eisengehalt gibt dem Stein seine gelb/bräunliche Farbe.
The sand stone here at Béiserbierg has a strong iron-content. This content accords him his yellow/braun coloration.

Das Vorkommen von dieser Art von stark eisenhaltigem Sandstein befindet sich etwas weiter westlich des Fundortes.
The sources for that kind of sandstone, you will find nearby in west direction from the location where the menhir was found.
Die Angulaten-Zone bildet zusammen mit dem unteren Teil der Bucklandi-Zone den Luxemburger Sandstein. Dieser im frischen Zustand blau-graue, später gelbe Sandstein ist stellenweise sehr fossilreich.
The angulat zone forms together with the lower part of the bucklandi zone the sandstone of Luxemburg. This bluish gray in the fresh condition , later yellow sandstone is very in parts fossil-rich.
In diesem Steinbruch konnten sehr schöne Ammoniten- und Schneckenfunde gemacht werden.
At this stone quarry were made some extraordinary fossil founds.
Durch das Entfernen von grossen Abschlägen entstand aus dem Block eine menschliche Silhouette: Man erkennt eine Einschnürung an der Taille und die Andeutung eines Kopfes. Nach seiner Herrichtung wurde der Block transportiert und in einer Grube aufgestellt, in der er von einem halben Steinkreuz gehalten wurde.
The block was shaped by the removal of large flakes of rock to resemble a human form: it has been made narrower in the middle and has the profile of a head. Once shaped, it was moved to and erected in a socket where it was held in place by a half-crown of 'trig' or 'packing' stones.

Diese prähistorische Architektur ist zwar in den angrenzenden Gebieten bekannt, doch der Stein vom Béisenerbierg ist der erste im Grossherzogtum entdeckte Menhir. Diese Monumente spiegelten wohl eine symbolische oder kommemorative Rolle, eventuell gepaart mit sozialen oder religiösen Momenten.
This prehistorical architecture is in the adjacent areas well-known, but the stone of the Béisenerbierg is first in the Grand Duchy discovered Menhir. This monument reflects probably a symbolic or commemorative role, possibly paired with social or religious moments.
Aufgrund seines hohen Alters und seiner Einzigartigkeit wurde der Menhir vom Béisenerbierg 2003 in die Liste der historischen Denkmäler aufgenommen.

- Wie verläuft dies Farbgebung im Stein. Im Stein gibt es eine grössere gelbliche Fläche. Wie gross ist sie?
