Clear Lake is one of the most recognizable and treasured features of Riding Mountain National Park. The source for this cool deep lake is primarily from groundwater rather than streams and rivers which means the water is rich in minerals that help deter algae growth. Known for its jewel toned crystal clear waters, Clear Lake is unique on the prairies and has been attracting people to its shores for centuries.

Washagama Saageygun is the Anishinabe term for “clear water lake”, and it is the place name for what is now commonly called Clear Lake. The name reminds the People that the lake is derived from the Creator. To the Anishinabe the underground springs that feed it are the veins of Mother Earth, and thus the lake water is alive and sacred. The community of Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation are landowners on the northwest shores of Clear Lake and work cooperatively with Parks Canada to protect this special place.

Perfect for boating, swimming, and fishing, Clear Lake’s sandy beaches invite you to luxuriate in the Manitoba sunshine; and the Lakeshore Trail will provide you with hours of recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking and camping.
