The channel between Vir and Skoljic islands is interesting due to its fauna and flora. Your children will appreciate plenty of live mollusks, empty shells, mussels, sepia bones and crab skeletons that are possible to be found here. If you encourage getting farther to the water you will find out that there is no problem to walk on foot from Vir to Skoljic island.

Local area is not very attractive for bathing, but if you sink under the water, you can find state protected noble pen shell (Pinna nobilis) - the second biggest bivalve on the world that appears in coastline of the whole Mediterranean sea in the depth from two to thirty meters. Their shells are usually 50 cm long, but it is possible to find specimens longer than 100 cm. One third of the shell is usually sunk in the sandy bottom. They are collected for food and due to dark pearls that grow inside.

Local curiosity is the fact that if you lie freely on the water you will be carried by the stream flowing between both islands with the speed of about 50 cm/sec.

Sea strait
