Geocache Description:

We come from a land downunder. So visiting the Land of the Midnight Sun and where Father Christmas lives seems about as far away from Australia as can be.

The Summer Solstice in North Pole which is on about the 21st of June means there is 21 hours and 49 minutes of official daylight though it is pretty much light all day long. After June 21st there is a loss of between 6-7 minutes of daylight each day.

While in Adelaide, Australia where we come from we are experiencing our Winter Solstice giving us our shortest day and our coldest weather.

Then, when the 21 December arrives the opposite is true. In Adelaide with Christmas approaching we have daylight till about 9.00 p.m. and with temperatures often around the 100 degree mark, we all head for the beach and it is great weather for Christmas parties and drinking beer. While in North Pole the winter solstice marks the shortest day resulting in 3 hours and 43 minutes of official daylight and probably not much else to do but drink beer .

While reading a local publication in Fairbanks I found it amusing when one of the questions asked (probably by a tourist) was "How do you sleep in the summer with all the light?" Answer "You close your eyes and count moose". Well if that question got asked in Australia the answer would be "you count sheep".

Some differences yes but when it comes to geocaching we are all similar as we experienced in our couple of wonderful days with local geocaching teams who have now offered to act as local maintainers for this cache. Our sincere thanks to AndMom, Another Lost Sister, Lost Sister, Lost Brat, Not a Lost Sister and Audra for their help and frienship.

The cache is hidden in woodland. The start of the trail does not look too inviting but it is very pleasant and we enjoyed looking at the different flowers on our way to gz. The cache is a preformed tube container and has a few very small swaps, a pencil and a log scroll.
