Unarchive a geocache

Archiving a geocache is meant to be a permanent action. Only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ can unarchive caches. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if the cache meets the current geocaching guidelines.

If a cache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance, it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Duck for cover! Enemy plane approaching from the west!

It's hard to believe the peaceful beach and bush areas within the Woodman Point Regional Park weren't always so serene. Over the years the site has been home to a quarantine station (complete with its own crematorium), a prisoner-of-war camp and World War II bunkers.

The munitions bunkers, located to the east of the old quarantine station, were actively used until the 1980s when the facility was moved to Karnup. A dedicated railway spur line to service the munitions reserve originally ran parallel to Cockburn Road past Coogee Beach to South Fremantle and then to the inner harbour of the Port of Fremantle, which was a major allied naval base during World War II.

To get to this geocache, travel about 8km south of Fremantle, turn into Nyyerbup Circle and park in the parking lot of the John Graham Recreation Reserve. Follow the paved track heading east, then head down the sand track towards the cache. Please take care not to trample native vegetation and stay away from areas marked for rehabilitation. Also, do your best not to move any rocks or disturb the bunker.

If you have a Nature Play WA passport (www.natureplaywa.org.au/passports), please use the stamp provided in the cache to stamp it.
