Placed in memory of Russ (Ole and Lena) Crawford,
This cache was launched/dedicated at 1:30 P.M. on September 3, 2011. It was unveiled in a group setting after the Texans Tour Minnesota event in Cohasset.
The cache is placed on private property, that of the cache owner. The neighbors are aware of this bench and it's significance, and also that geocachers may be coming from afar to sit on this bench. The people are friendly on this road, just smile and give a wave if one were to happen by while you enjoy this cache. Most of them knew Russ, and many of them knew of Russ's affection for the geocaching game.
Russ touched many people throughout his life, and in his retirement, geocaching was a big part of his life. Russ made many friends while on the trail, with his ability to make a first time meeting seem like you just met your best friend. This cache is placed in Russ's memory.
Russ was and avid FTF hunter. For this reason, there was no traditional dollar placed for any first finder. Everyone present at the initial unveiling however, recieved a not so traditional Second To Find penny, which was a 1943 (the year Russ was born) steel penny.
Items left in Ole's caching bag, coins, and some of his signature Oregon agates were available at the unveiling for friends and acquintences to take and remember Ole with.
Many attenders of the dedication brought stories of Ole to trade. Those who did not have any to trade, left with stories in their mind.
Please take the time to sit on the bench, take in the view, smell the flowers, and simply slow yourself down for a couple of minutes before re-joining the hassles of the day. Enjoy life.
"Boys, it doesn't get any better than this" Russ Crawford, 1943-2010.
