In 1888 George Soames, Sr., brought his family from England to the Sunshine Coast and settled on D.L. 694 on Howe Sound. He was a friend of George Gibson.
Soames mined gravel from the local beaches. Maybe that's why this is one of the few sandy beaches on Howe Sound.
