Geocache Description:

English: A short distance from a well-maintained dirt road you will find the "corpse pine", a tree with historic significance. The cache is in the immediate vicinity.

English: Before the road network was developed the inhabitants of the small villages north-east of Ramsele had to carry the dead to the old church in Ramsele across a mountain trail. This pine tree was half-way across the mountain, and was a natural place to rest. As the men rested they would carve the name of the deceased and the year into this pine tree, the oldest year recorded is 1764. An even older corpse pine also existed at this location, but was chopped down in 1880. The cache is in the immediate vicinity of the pine.
