Geocache Description:

Come and join us for a weekend of camping, meeting other cachers, finding a few caches, or to just gently recover from the Oz Mega Event, before heading home.

For 2 days (and maybe 3) we will be out in rugged and beautiful country where we will camp along the way and end up in an unknown location, but most likely it will be within cooee of Beveridge!

While touring the area we expect to gather elements of the “unknown” which is a strangely alluring and difficult puzzle created by "?" - that mysterious unknown person who moves from one town to another trying to find a steady supply of caches where it is not too cold! It promises to provide a lot of iconic Australian history, which most of us know about.

Where we meet and camp - first night.
We will meet at the listed co-ordinates, which is the Stringybark Creek Campground. We expect to arrive at the campground at around 4.00pm, Friday 13 April where we will set up for the night.
We will remain at the Stringybark Creek camp until 10.00am the following morning, which is the time that the event will officially start and to wait for any other arrivals.

Camping the second night (Sat).
We are not totally sure where the trail will lead us to on the second day, but we will definitely be camping either in the bush or at a caravan park if we are close to a town.

The third day (Sun).
If all goes well we will be on the way to discovering the unknown and by late Sunday afternoon we should be heading towards Beveridge and then home in time for dinner! However, from many previous experiences dealing with a bunch of geocachers, who want to talk about everything and share lots of experiences, there is a strong possibility that we will not achieve this desired outcome!!
Consequently we are allowing another day to ensure that we achieve our goals and that everyone has a chance to tell each other their caching experiences and stories.
Therefore there is a strong possibility that we will be camping out on the Sunday night as well - for those who can afford the time.

What to bring and other requirements

  1. We will be camping out for 2 and maybe 3 nights. Please bring along your preferred sleeping arrangement ie swags, tents, campervans, caravans etc. We will be selecting camping sites that 2 wheel drive vehicles can access.
  2. There may not be power, drinking water or hot showers at all of our camps (no power or hot water at Stringybark Creek Campground for instance), so please be self sufficient with all of your needs.
  3. Food and supplies. We will be passing and possibly staying in a town one of the nights, so there will be opportunities to buy food along the way, however it would be preferred if you have all of your supplies for the weekend with you so that we do not have to delay our progress.
  4. Communication. It would be very useful to have a UHF radio to keep in contact with other teams while traveling in convoy. Even if it is a small handheld unit.
