Who Was Here 24 : The Krotons
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This is one of a series of caches based on locations used for filming Doctor Who, be it the filming the latest series or any of the earlier ones. If you're near such a location and want to add to the series, just let Pezzini know so she can keep the numbers without duplicates and please keep to the naming convention of starting the series with "Who Was Here: ".
The Krotons, a 1969 story, although not regarded as a "classic", starred Patrick Troughton, the second doctor, who was highly regarded as one of the best past doctors.
Many of the locations from The Krotons were filmed around Tank Quarry. The quarry was created circa 1872 on North Hill in the Malverns, and was owned by Thomas William Morgan and then Pyx Granite Co Ltd. The quarry operated until 1970 - in spite of the Malvern Hills Act of 1924 stating that hill quarrying should cease by 1960, extensions were granted to enable quarrying to continue (it was active at time of filming for The Krotons).
Since then, Worcestershire Country Council have infilled much of the site, and it is now managed by the Malvern Hills Conservators, with a picnic area overlooking the quarry face. The quarry is cordoned off, but you can view the cliff face from the picnic area and cache location.
There is free parking but the gates are locked from 6.00pm. The cache can still be grabbed after this time, but you will then need to park you vehicle roadside. This cache can be done as a quick cache and dash, but please be careful of those picnic muggles!
The disguised cache contains a log book only so please remember to bring a pen. Please also replace the cache EXACTLY as found, thank you. Enjoy the views too!
Cache placed with the kind permission of Malvern Hills Conservators.
