Arthur Meighen (Conservative Party of Canada) served two terms
as Canada’s Prime Minister from July 10, 1920, to December
28, 1921, and from June 29, 1926, to September 24, 1926. One
highlight of his time in office was the creation of the Armistice
Day Act in 1921. In addition to being Prime Minister, he also
served as Secretary of State for External Affairs from 1920 to 1921
and in 1926. Prior to taking office, Mr. Meighan was a prominent
figure in both the creation of the Canadian National Railway and in
the ending of the Winnipeg General Strike in 1919. After serving as
Prime Minister, he was Government Leader in the Senate from 1932 to
1935. Mr. Meighan was a lawyer and first sat in the House of
Commons in 1908. He was born on June 16, 1874, in Anderson,
Ontario, and died in Toronto, Ontario, on August 5, 1960.

Arthur Meighen (Parti conservateur du Canada) a eu deux mandats
comme Premier ministre du Canada, du 10 juillet 1920 au 28 décembre
1921et du 29 juin 1926 au 24 septembre 1926. Un des hauts faits de
sa période au pouvoir a été la création de la Loi du jour de
l'armistice en 1921. En plus d’être Premier ministre, il a
également été secrétaire d'État aux Affaires extérieures de 1920 à
1921 et en 1926. Avant d’être au pouvoir, M. Meighen a joué
un rôle important dans la création des Chemins de fer nationaux du
Canada et pour mettre fin à la grève générale de Winnipeg en 1919.
Après avoir été Premier ministre, il a été leader du gouvernement
au Sénat de 1932 de 1935. Avant de siéger à la Chambre des communes
en 1908, M. Meighen a été avocat. Né le 16 juin 1874 à Anderson, en
Ontario, il est décédé à Toronto le 5 août 1960.
