SmithyPeaknuckle: I made it by ground zero today and confirmed what the last cacher found -- the metal rod sans the original container. Without the 2-foot tall replica of the lamp post from the description page, this cache's theme really wouldn't make sense. Additionally, forthcoming park rules would likely have forced this one to be moved anyway so I am regrettably archiving it.

Thanks to all the geocachers who were not afraid to put some miles on their hiking shoes to make it out to this one. I was rather proud of the idea, and hadn't expected muggles to come so far off the beaten path to stumble across this one. Just like it mentions in the book, you'll have to find a new way back to Narnia...

Geocache Description:

The 1st thing Lucy finds in the woods of Narnia is a lamppost.
(The second thing she finds is a cache.)

The Lamppost was a major landmark in the country of Narnia, located in the north-western area populated by Dryads and Fauns, which was named Lantern Waste after it. Resembling a London streetlamp it stood in the middle of the forest and shone day and night. It was at the lamppost that Lucy Pevensie first met Mr. Tumnus. He tells her that the lamp-post marks the beginning of Narnia.

The Lamppost originated in the first few days of Narnia's creation, from a bar of iron which Queen Jadis had torn from a London lamppost and thrown at Aslan. Aslan at the time was creating the living things of Narnia by his song, which made the ground of Narnia magically fertile and gave birth to the animals and plants of the world. The iron bar fell to the ground and, under the influence of Aslan's song, gave birth to a new, little lamppost.

You will need to bring your own pen to sign this cache. You will not need to pick the cache up off the ground -- only the "lid". Adhering to this request will ensure the original container lasts for all future cachers to enjoy.

Greater Charlotte Geocaching Club

This cache was originally intended to be part of the the LPC contest, but procrastination led to a late hide. Fortunately, it also fits in well with the new theme of "literature" as the Narnia books are a fantastic young adult fantasy series with many allegories to the Christian faith (although you don't have to be Christian to truly appreciate these books!).
