Geocache Description:

SLO:

ENG:
Kamniška Bistrica and Ljubljanica rivers discharge into the river Sava near the same place at the village Podgrad. Confluence should have mentioned Janez Vajkard Valvasor in the book Slava vojvodine Kranjske, but he relied the confluence of four rivers – Ljubljanica, Kamniška Bistrica, Sava and Besnica. Besnica stream flows into the Ljubljanica a bit before reaching Sava.

The confluence lies in a secluded spot between fields and meadows. You can see many water birds on it. The polution of the rivers in recent years has greatly decreased, so that they are suitable for fishing and boating.

At the vicinity of Podgrad, on the gravel terraces at the confluence of the Ljubljanica and Sava (Gradišče near Zalog), in the first century was built Roman fort (Savo Fluvio). Location of the fort is poorly researched. It had brick walls of a rectangular shape the size of 140x60 meters, from which are partly preserved just a stone foundations, but they are completely buried. In the surrounding area (Kašelj, Zadvor) there were numerous of land estates (villa rustica).

You can park near the Central purification plant and take a walk to the final location. It will take you about 20 minutes of moderate walking.
