A nível nacional, recebeu para além dos jogos dos campeonatos distrital da AF Vila Real e nacional da III Divisão, jogos para a Taça de Portugal, bem como por diversas vezes a final da taça da AF Vila Real. No primeiro trimestre de 2012, sofreu obras de melhoria em termos da zona de estacionamento (coordenadas iniciais da cache).

Santa Marta de Penaguião Estádio Municipal is the biggest sport venue of the municipality. It has capacity for 5000 supporters distributed by 2 stands, and the terrace. Along with basic facilities, the stadium has a grass surface (105x68 meters) and a training ground (which hosts the youth team’s games).
Opened in 1986, the Estádio Municipal has the peculiar characteristic of being fitted between vineyards. Even though, it hosts many different activities not only sports related, but also cultural events like fairs, exhibitions, concerts, etc.
It was re-opened on 11th February 2003 with is first international (friendly) match between Portugal and Denmark, in U-17 after receiving several improvement works and a get turf installed on the main ground. Other int. games

At the domestic competitions, apart from the AF Vila Real district championship matches, the stadium hosted games from the National 3rd Division, Portuguese Cup and for several times the AF Vila Real Final Cup. During the beginning of 2012 the Estádio Municipal suffered some improvements on the car parking (initial coordinates).

Nesta cache é também dada a conhecer a homenagem feita ao melhor futebolista nascido em Santa Marta de Penaguião, Eurico Gomes, o primeiro jogador a representar os chamados 3 grandes de Portugal (S.L. Benfica, Sporting C.P. e F.C.Porto).
Nascido a 29 de Setembro de 1955 em Santa Marta de Penaguião, Eurico Monteiro Gomes, jogava a defesa central e foi formado nas escolas do Benfica, clube no qual chegou aos seniores com apenas 19 anos, em 1973.
Equipas representadas: SL.Benfica (1973-1979); Sporting (1979-1982); Fc.Porto (1973-1979); Vit. Setúbal (1973-1979);
Tem a sua primeira internacionalização em 1978 contra os EUA (vitoria por 1-0). Integra a comitiva portuguesa no Euro’84, disputado em França e no qual Portugal seria arredado apenas nas meias-finais frente aos anfitriões. A 3 de Abril 1985, retira-se das competições internacionais com 38 internacionalizações A e 3 golos.
Aos 34 anos, Eurico Gomes “pendura as chuteiras”, depois de ter conquistado 6 Campeonatos (1975/76, 1976/77, 1979/80, 1981/82, 1984/85, 1985/86), 1 Taça de Portugal (1983/84) e 2 Super Taças de Portugal (1983/84, 1984/85)
Em 1989/90 inicia a carreira de treinador ao serviço do Rio Ave, tendo depois passado por vários clubes nacionais - ganhando mesmo um campeonato da II Divisão - e estrangeiros. Actualmente desempenha o papel de comentador desportivo na TV.
Curiosamente, nunca esteve ligado ao clube da sua terra natal.

His first cap was in 1978 against USA (1-0 to Portugal). In 1984 was part of the Portuguese delegation in the EURO’84 championship, held in France, in which Portugal was knocked out in the semi-final against the host team. On April 3, 1985, he retires from the national team with 38 caps and 3 goals scored.
At the age of 34, Eurico Gomes retires from football, after had won six championships (1975/76 1976/77 1979/80 1981/82 1984/85, 1985 / 86), 1 Portuguese Cup (1983/84) and two Portuguese Super-Cups (1983/84 1984/85).
