Geocache Description:

Introducing 7th Graders to Geocaching

This is an opportunity for geocachers to help 7th grade geography students at Woodland Middle School learn about geocaching. There are two classes. The first is from 8:10-9 am and the second one is from 10:40-11:30 am. Attend one or both to get a smiley for helping out. The first 15 minutes is a quick explanation of what geocaching is. The students will then have about 30 minutes to find a couple of caches in the woods on the school grounds. I also put together a local geography puzzle for them (and you) to figure out ahead of time. I'll be posting the puzzle on this page, but the actual cache for it won't be in place until the day before and will only be in place for the event, as I don't know what the ownership status is for those woods with the sale of the school grounds.

Meet at the school office (through the main doors on East Clover Street), by 8 am for the first class and by 10:30 am for the second class to sign in on the school's visitor sheet.

Post a "Will Attend" if you can make it...Thanks!!

Here is the puzzle that the kids will try to solve in addition to the caches they will be seeking...please note, if you figure it out ahead of time, the actual container won't be placed until the day of the event:

Woodland Geography Geocaching Puzzle Cache by dmnrec

Here is a puzzle cache for you to figure out before June 5th. The cache itself will not be in place until June 5th. So, if you figure it out ahead of time, no sense looking for it before the event. If you are having trouble figuring it out, I provided a hint below. Have fun!!

46 degrees North AB.CDE

092 degrees West FG.HIJ

Elevation of the Duluth International Airport - Elevation of Sky Harbor Airport - 771 = AB

Total watershed area of Chester Creek in square miles + 121.9 = CDE

Total area of Duluth in square miles - total area of land in Duluth in square miles - 15.3 = FG

Total length of the streams of the Tischer Creek watershed area x 43 (round up to nearest whole number) = HIJ

46 degrees North ____ . _________

092 degrees West _______ . ________

Temp caches: I’m posting the coords for all the temps for the classes on Tuesday in case you want to input them into your GPS’s. I placed 2 eggs per GPS unit and the units are numbered 1-10. I marked them in each GPS unit as #001 and #002. I had a little trouble with a couple of the marks with the accuracy, so keep that in mind when helping them search. All the caches are at 46 49.xxx and 092 04.yyy.
