Geocache Description:

The Twelve Caesars

This series is dedicated to the Twelve Caesars of the Roman Empire. They didn’t always have staying power as rulers but 2000 years have past and half of these guys are house-hold names.

Most of the following information is taken from the work of Suetonius, who’s biography of Julius Caesar and the first eleven Emperors of the Roman Empire was written in 121 AD.

Marcus Salvius Otho Caesar Augustus
Seventh Emperor of the Roman Empire

April 32– 16 April 69
Otho had even less success as Emperor than the man he ousted from that position. Otho was Emperor for only 3 months and was the second Emperor to serve in what is now known as ‘The Year of the Four Emperors’. He spent his entire reign fighting off Emperor Wannabes. He died by his own hand knowing he would not survive. Ironically after his death, many came to believe his suicide was his attempt to save the country from civil war.

First To Find may claim a Brass Replica Roman coin.
