Here's a little spot we would like to share with you. It's tranquil and away from all the hustle and bustle of Uni life. And, suprisingly it's also the centre of a LOT of action.
Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is not a well known bit of crown land that sits right in the centre of the race track. It has long been embroiled in a dispute with local council and community members who feel the area is not being fully utilised. Well, truth be told, I like that there aren't hords of people there of a weekend. We like the quite that you can get in the middle of it all. There's almost a little feel of country life here in the burbs that wouldn't be the same if there were bbqs and playgrounds here.
Come along. Bring the dog for a walk. Bring the kids to check out the bird life around the dam in the centre of the reserve. If you like your chances bring your fishing rod because, even though it's catch and release, fishing is allowed. In winter, I might suggest, bring your wellies! (so says one sad member of the HarriGriff team who got her clogs hopelessly squishy!) But, most of all, just bring your desire to stretch your legs in a pretty darn cool spot!
If you're lucky on a weekend you might catch a gang of model airplane/helicopter pilots. We watched a couple of INCREDIBLE guys fly some helicopters on our "hide day" and felt really lucky to have seen such fancy manchines put through their paces.
THE CACHE: You'll be looking for a micro (eclipse mint tin) which holds a log book and Ikea pencil. We do suggest you bring your own pen just in case! Do try to not drop the cache in the pond, please! (so says the same member who got squishy shoes!)
BE AWARE: The gate at the waypoint is open from 9:30am to Sunset every day EXCEPT race days and major event days
