The favorite of the 99 palaces of Pototski once stood here.
The town of Antoniny was first mentioned in the second half of the 14th century when it was called Golodkami and owned by the powerful Ostrog family. The town passed to the Zaslavsky family, then Lyubomirski, and finally the Potocki Family. In 1760 the name was changed to Antoniny. At that time the town owner Barbara Sangushko gave it as a gift to the crown regent Ignatius Malchevsky who had just married her sister Antonina. Malchevsky changed the name of the town in honor of his wife. The last owners of the palace and town were the powerful Pototski family who owned 99 homes (the King of Poland forbid them from owning 100). This was one of their homes surrounded by their growing sugar empire. On the eve of World War I the Potockis had a 9-car garage, a power plant, a green house, a coach house, a stable with several hundred riding thoroughbreds, and a dog kennel with nearly 500 hounds. The advancing Bolshevik army burned down the palace in 1919 that would have stood where the football field lies today. All that remains are one wing of the palace (second half of 18th century), the arena (19th century), the park, and the original gate that contains the crest of the Sangushko and Potocki families. The garage is now the town hall. Joseph Potocki installed the lion sculpture in honor of his safari in the Sudan. A lion attacked him and if it were not for the quick reaction of his guides, he would have been killed. Potocki brought back one of the lion’s cubs which was a favorite pet that wandered the grounds. Upon the death of that cub, Potocki erected the sculpture.
