How Geocaching Works

Small lock n lock container stocked with "goodies" for the kids and 'kids at heart'. Container was "won" at a recent event at Blue Mountain Reservation, thus the first part of the name, and today is the 2nd part of the cache name (the youngest member of team HaLiJuSaPa, otherwise known as "Sa").
Hunt Woods Preserve in the northernmost part of Mt. Vernon near Bronxville is one of our favorites. Team leader "Ha" explored it with his BMX bike many a time as a "tween" a long time ago, it hasn't changed much at all. We've placed a cache or two before in this general area, but this is a completely new spot. There is a WG$1 for the FTF!
The easiest way (especially if you're bringing kids) to find this cache is to park at the waypoint given below. Note that the guardrails are there to stop entrance by motorized vehicles, these woods are free and open to the public. Then it is a short 600-700 foot or so walk to the cache. Alternatively, for a little more challenge, you can enter these woods at the other end at Gramatan Ave. and take a nice, generally level hike of about 0.3 mile or so to the cache site.
We strongly encourage you to take the entire trail and explore this wooded oasis in a major urban/suburban area. To encourage further, we have a 2nd cache in this park (GCZDN3):
which is part of our "Diamond in the Rough" series of caches in "wilderness preserves" in urban locales. Have fun and enjoy!
