Cache is located just outside Killbear Provincial Park, our family’s favorite place to camp with our sailing club every August. Container is camo’d match stick container with only a log, please bring your own pen/pencil. There is parking nearby. If you’re biking or hiking from your campsite please use the trail provided within the park, last part will be on the main road which can be busy at times, please use caution.
Back in the early 70’s a few of our sailing club members started coming to Killbear. Soon it was a family camping week drawing upwards to 40-50 boats over the week. After a summer road trip in 1977 with my parents out west we planned a long weekend stop to join them. As we drove the only thing on the radio was the news of the death of the king! Not just any king but the KING of ROCK & ROLL! Elvis! It was the talk of the camp ground and for days afterwards the only thing on the radio was Elvis songs (CD’s, MP3’s and such were not heard of back then, it was the AM radio or nothing). Back to Killbear, that first visit was with my parents as were several more. Then it was with friends and then my girlfriend who later became my wife. Next my 6 week daughter made her first visit. Four years later my second daughter came up at the tender age of 5 months. This year will mark 35 straight years for me visiting Killbear. Shortest visit was 2 nights (3rd night got rained out), longest was 2 ½ weeks. Although I did not find my first Geocache in this park it was where I first heard about it and on my next visit I found the 2 caches that were in the park, today only 1 remains. Ontario Parks does not allow placement of caches within the park so as a tribute I did the next best thing… placed a cache just outside. Enjoy the park and enjoy the cache. Oh and there’s ice cream just down the street if you need a reward.
