Shortly after we placed this cache, the Waterfall 2 fire broke out and the area was closed so we held off on publishing.
We made a side trip here on our way to spend a couple of nights at Gold Butte lookout.
There are amazing views and a relic at the top that make this steep but otherwise easy hike a rewarding adventure!
If you happen to be driving along the old 4220, you can't help but see Ruddy hill with it's red cinder crown. The hill has been called Red Hill because of it.
Ruddy Hill is a failry young volcanic cinder cone and for that reason, rises vertically very abruptly. The path gains 650 feet in just seven tenths of a mile.
Take the 714, a short side trail off the PCT just north of the Horseshoe Saddle Trail 712. We hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did
