Vrtača je samotna planina nad Bohinjem. Ime ima kar prikladno, saj je s skoraj vseh strani obdana s strmimi pobočji in visokimi gorami. Z nje se prav lepo vidita bližnja dvatisočaka: Jezerski Stog in Tosc.
Čeprav planine no doseže nobena markirana pot, pa prek nje vodi stara pot s planine Voje proti Velemu polju (vidna na zemljevidu), na kateri so ponekod še vidni sledovi starih markacij, a smo pri sledenju poti kljub temu pretežno prepuščeni lastnemu ostremu očesu in posameznim možicem. Na poti boste premagali precejšnjo višinsko razliko. Nekaj odsekov je precej strmih, a ne prepadnih. Z ustrezno planinsko obutvijo se ni nikjer potrebno izpostavljati nevarnosti. Priporočljivo je, da imate vsaj nekaj izkušenj s hojo po nemarkiranih poteh in brezpotjih.
Pristop z nove markirane poti z Voj na Velo polje je orientacijsko lažji, saj je odsek nemarkirane poti precej krajši in bolje opremljen z možici. Tudi začetek spusta na planino je s te strani označen s precej velikim možicem na nasprotni strani markirane poti.
Upoštevajte, da je signal GPS tako na odcepu poti kot na lokaciji zaklada običajno precej slab, zato si pomagajte z opisom, namigom in priloženo fotografijo.

Vrtača is a desolate mountain pasture above Bohinj. The name suits it (vrtača = sinkhole) since it's almost completely surrounded with steep slopes and high mountains. It offers a nice view of two neighbouring peaks above 2,000 m: Jezerski Stog and Tosc.
Although it can't be reached by any marked trail, an old trail from Voje to Velo polje does lead accross it (shown on map). There are still a few old signs visible on it, but most of the time one can only rely on his sharp eyes and occasional cairns. The trail overcomes quite a height difference and some sections are really steep but not exposed. With proper hiking shoes you never need to put yourself to danger. You should have at least some experience with hiking on unmarked trails and pathless terrain.
The approach from the new marked trail from Voje to Velo polje makes the orientations the easiest. You only have to follow a short section of the unmarked trail in this case and there are also plenty of cairns here. The trailhead is indicated with a pretty big cairn on the opposite side.
