Fun event at Holmes Lake to help educate new folks interested in geocaching!
We have a number of youth interested in learning about geocaching that will be at the lake on Saturday, October 20.
We need geocachers to to help guide these new geocachers to learn about the ins and outs of geocaching, that is how to find out about geocaches, how to hunt them using the appropriate etiquite, and how to learn abou the hobby that we all love! As part of the event, experienced geocachers will team up with the youth and show them how to use GPS units to find (and hide) some special temporary (non-official) geocaches in the area. Hopefully one outcome from this event will be a few more geocaches for everyone to enjoy into the future!
This should be a lot of fun and get the next generation excited about geocaching!
How do I help? Good question! I'm asking event attendees to arrive for one of two sessions (8:30 AM or 1:30 PM) at the posted coordinates. In your 'Will Attend' log, give me an idea of which session you can help. Best parking will actually be at the lake (N 40 46.751 W 96 37.963).
What's in it for current geocachers? Most events are the type where we gather around and trade collectibles and eat--fun but what about geocaching? This one will be a great opportunity to see different geocaching equipment in use. How does Ben get all those FTFs? What is Dan's latest TOTT (do I need one)? Also, there will be special geocoins for those that can help...
What about the food and stories? Well, why not bring a picnic lunch. Visit with old and new geocachers. Have a fun time and plan your next group geocaching assault!
This event won't happen without your help--hope to see you there!
