Geocache Description:

Spring has sprung and it is time to dust off those walking boots and once again hit the trails with your fellow geocachers!

The Geocaching NSW Spring walking event feature a bit of variety this time around. Our journey starts at the Berowra Ferry (see additional WP's for the meeting place), crossing the Hawksburry River via the car ferry and ascending up onto the Great Northern Walk, heading south towards Crosslands picnic area.

The Walk
Total distance for the walk is just under 7 kilometres. There are some uphill sections at the very beginning, which will see us gain altitude to view the stunning river below. The walking track is very well defined and there are many places to stop, catch your breath and take in the views. Once we gain the initial altitude it is nearly all downhill and level walking, with one last hill before the final leg to Crosslands Reserve itself.

Total walking time on average is around 3-3.5 hours - particularly if you stop and take in the views or maybe find a cache or two along the way. The walk is suitable for children, though we will leave it up to you to decide if it is OK for them.

If the need arrises, there are a number of exits from the walk as we wander past Berowra, but once we start the descent back down to river level, you will either have to turn back or continue on to complete the walk.

We highly recommend you wear a hat and sunscreen and bring plenty to drink. A walking stick may be helpful on the hills.

We intend to start the walk at 9 am sharp, to be able to make it to Crosslands Reserve in time for lunch.

There appears to be facilities at the posted final co-ords, but as to what condition they are in, we are unsure. If you are planning to have a cooked lunch it is probably best to bring your own BBQ. There is plenty of shade here, but please bring your own chairs. (It may be best to organise to leave a car at Crosslands with your gear, rather then lug the chairs and BBQ's on the walk)

We highly recommend a car shuffle or organise a lift with someone who can take you back to your car after the event - however we leave this up to you (visit the Geocaching NSW forum to organise car shuffles).

If you are not coming for the walk, that's OK. Just meet at the posted co-ordinates from around 11 am and look for the Geocaching NSW banner for where we have setup. You are more than welcome if you do not want to do the walk.

We hope to see you on the day, please post a Will Attend to make sure you receive any announcements that we may make before the day.

Getting To Crosslands Reserve:
Crosslands Reserver is at the end of Sommerville Road, which come off Galston Road as you head towards Galston Gorge in Hornsby Heights. DO NOT try and access it from Crosslands Road, or you will either get a very wet car, or will need to swim to where we will be.
