The event will be a teamed race. Teams of up to four people (not counting children) can compete for the final prize. Please have your teams selected before you arrive if possible. If you want to team up with someone, but don't have a full team, please post a note on the event page indicating the need for a team member. Details about the race will be revealed the day of the event.
For the race, you will need a cipher wheel. I will have some made up, but if you want to prepare your own and be ready before the event, here is the link to the one I will using to put together pre-made wheels.
CIPHER WHEEL
The costume contest will be a themed contest. If you want to participate, please arrive no later than 10:45 so we can get all participants ready for voting at 11:00. Please dress in one of these three themes based on the film:
Heroes - Wesley/Dread Pirate Roberts, Inigo Montoya, Fezzik
Villians - Prince Humperdink, Count Rugen, Vizzini
Supporting - Buttercup, Miracle Max, Valerie (Max's wife), King or Queen, (basically another character from the film)
Dinner will be a potluck. It isn't recommended that you bring something that needs to be kept warm to the start of the event. There is no electricity at the shelter itself. The shelter has several cooking grills on site and at least one small gas grill will be present. So if you bring something grillable, we will grill it up for you. Be considerate and keep it simple. Bring your own drinks and serviceware.
Camping is available at
Watkins Mill State Park. If you might be interested in camping, please say so in a note or Will Attend log. Try to include a campsite number at some point some point. This will allow people to try and get closer together so we have more of a group feel to the camping. (thanks for the idea Doug). Buzzkill2 and RedsoxFan65, two cachers who helped me start the yearly Halloween event three years ago have set up a second event to coincide with the Halloween event. Check out
Camp and Cache. StealthRT has set up a third event for Friday night:
The KC Master Event - 210 Master of Smores. Please visit the park's site for information on reserving a campsite.
Help is appreciated, especially since I am organizing this from Maryville. The distance is the main reason why this might be my last year hosting the event. Here are few ways you can help: anyone with a portable grill (gas or charcoal) that is willing to bring it to help with grilling meats; registration table (start of event only); trackables table (start and end of event only); game card submission table (end of event only). If you want to help with one of the other things listed above, please say something in your Will Attend log or contact me personally.
Prizes for the race itself include a set of three unactivated GPSr Manufacturer Geocoins (Garmin, Magellan, Delorme). Trekkie has donated a camoed Ammo Can as well. Additional prizes are still desired, so if anyone would like to donate something for a prize pool, please bring it with you to the event.
More information will be posted soon.
