Geocache Description:

The Brickworks, Iceland and Greenland, at Egernsund near Broager and Gråsten, were just two of many brickworks in the largest area of brick manufacturing in Denmark. The works were right next to each other and shared clay pit.
There were originally three brickworks. Greenland was then northerly then Island and southernmost Jan Mayen
The works strange names were, because the brickworks was the northernmost placed works of the great Egernsund brick craft area and also the northernmost locations Denmark had back then.
Greenland was built before the year 1777 and worked as a brick until 1974 when parts of the plant burned down. Island was built in 1764 and the last Jan Mayer in 1792. All work went into sales cooperation in 1894 under the German name "Vereinigte Ziegeleiren" until the referendum in 1920 and the name changed to "The United Brickworks" and later "Egernsund bricks" in 2000.
Tile and brick production ceased completely in the works 1989 after a ceramics production was attempted until 1993 when a bankruptcy.
The factory continued led by Italian owners but this process only until 2000 when all activity ceased on site.
Today there is nothing left of the works except the large pits that also this cache is located in. As the years went by, the clay nearest the factories was empty and had to dig clay farther away. The transport of clay was handled by narrow gauge railway and during this transport between work and tomb became necessary to pas under a the road  called “Skovgade”..

Of equipment include the last train that crossed the track was brand DIEMA, a modern dieselhydralisk locomotive that pulled 9 wagon carrying clay for the production.

No material from the field is left today.

Happy hunting
