BANKS OF THE SEINE

After his coming in Troyes in 1805, Napoleon the 1stdecided the digging of the Haute Seine channel from 1806 to link Paris Basin to Burgundy region.
In the middle of the 19
thcentury, barges sailed along, transporting to Paris heating wood, hosiery goods, wine…
This channel has been removed from the waterways in 1957 and then covered to let main avenues settle on : Avenue Vannier et Chomedey de Maisonneuve.

The works for reopening and renovating of the Seine banks has been ended in 2012. This project was included in a global arrangement aim of the city to restore some public life places, strolls, meetings points…
The goal is also to give the water its real place in the city and to legitimize its historical value. It’s also useful to link the two parts of the city : the “head” and the “body” of the Champagne cork*.

*Champagne cork : amazing but true shape of the city view to the sky !
