There is nothing left of the original fire lookout that was on top of Tumalo Butte, now it is all private property with a big house within feet of the original tower.
Started as a camp in the 1930s, a cabin and 10' pole tower w/ 7x7' cab were added in 1950. These were replaced by a 3-story enclosed tower with ODF cab in 1957. It was destroyed in 1981.
DO NOT DRIVE UP LOOKOUT DRIVE, this is a PRIVATE road with no access to the cache. Access to the cache is up Saddleback Lane, NOT lookout Drive. Anyone driving on Lookout Drive will be trespassing as the signs at the bottom of the hill indicate. Property owners on Lookout Drive have complained to Groundspeak about trespassing cachemobiles, PLEASE pay attention to your approach and respect private property!
This is a small rubbermaid and is within a tenth of a mile from the original tower site. If you drive to the end of Saddleback Lane, at the top the turn around circle is 518 feet from where the tower once stood. It was snowing and windy when we placed this cache so I hope the coords are close enough. The container is at the base of a small Juniper tree. Please re-hide well to keep this one from being muggled.
