Geocache Description:

A small "lock and lock" with a log book only. There's room for small trackables (GeoCoins, Path Tags, etc.).

Before the new 4 lane Highway 34, this was the highway between Ottumwa and Fairfield. It also went through the towns Albia and Batavia. The paved area directly south west of here was a weigh station and directly west of here is the junction of Highways 34 and 16 (the highway to Eldon). This junction became known as the "Eldon Y" landmarked by the water tower that can be seen for miles in either direction.

Eldon is the town where the house (still standing) Grant Wood made famous in his painting "American Gothic". There is a Virtual Cache there. Take a picture of yourself in front of the house and upload it to log it as a find. If the visitor center is open, they will loan you a pitchfork and clothes to make it look more authentic. It's only a few miles south of here and definitely worth the trip!
