Geocache Description:

LV: rakstāmais jāpaņem pašām...
ENG: need to take w

ENG:
Miķeļtornis also Miķeļbāka, or Livonian language Pize (Pisa) is a village in the Baltic Sea coast, north of Courland, Ventspils novadaTārgales parish. 1.5 km south of the village going regional road P124 (Ventspils-Kolka). Distance to Ventspils 43 km from Riga - 188 km.

In the village is the highest lighthouse in Latvian - Miķeļbāka, in 1893. built in the Lutheran church, Pizes Liv Cemetery. From the lighthouse, which was once called the Russian Emperor Alexander II, on behalf of his nephew (Mihajlovskij majak) latviskojot originated the modern name of the village. At Miķeļtornis is relatively wild Irbe Strait coast. Although summer vacationers intake is the main branch of the economy in the village (there are several camping and guest house), there are still even in mid-summer beach is not overcrowded.
Miķeļtornis is one of 12 North Liv (Liv) fishermen. Livi here even the 1930s. years accounted for communities with their own language, traditions and way of life, but in later decades, they have almost completely assimilated.
