Geocache Description:

Located in beautiful Black Rock State Park, on the Thomaston/Watertown line. Also located off the Mattatuck (blue) Trail - a wonderful hike from Watertown to Litchfield.

If you enter from the State Park (accessible from Route 6) park in any of the lots (there is an entry fee during the season) and find the bridge over the stream at N41° 39.099 W 073° 05.971. Find the blue trail, find the cache! There are several goodies inside an ammo can. (Make sure you close it tight!!!) You can also enter from the Mattatuck Trail head.

The name "Black Rock" is derived from the local graphite deposits which the early settlers of the Naugatuck Valley were allowed to mine by the resident Indians. Visitors can enjoy the scenery of the Western Highlands while hiking the blue-blazed Mattatuck Trail which connects the Park to the woodland sections of the Mattatuck State Forest.

This cache is dedicated to my caching buddy Tom Thumb...who introduced me to this great hobby.
